Society for Quality Education President Recognized for Literary Work
TORONTO – February 22, 2007
The Society for Quality Education (SQE) president, Malkin Dare, was among six women honoured for Volunteering in Education and Literacy by the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo at their Women of Achievement dinner held last evening. Zonta International is a service organization of professional women.
Mrs. Dare devised SQE’s popular Stairway to Reading remedial program. This systematic, explicit phonics program was designed from sound, researched-based principles of effective reading instruction. Her successful experiences tutoring an ever-growing number of students who had difficultly learning to read prompted her involvement in education reform.
Stairway to Reading is available on the Society for Quality Education’s website for free download as a public service to parents and teachers by clicking on Reading Program.
The Society for Quality Education is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to providing facts about quality education. The Society works to advance public and private education in Canada by disseminating authoritative information on educational governance and methodology. The Society is funded entirely by private donations. More information can be found at www.societyforqualityeducation.org
