There Are Credits And Then There Are Tax Credits

September 08, 2010 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 07:29 AM

Ontario Premier McGuinty has floated the idea of a $50 tax credit for parents who have there kids enrolled in sports or other activities, similar to the the plan the federal government has in place.  Well now that the littlest ones are at school all day, what’s left for the government to spend our money on? (It’s an election year, fill in the blank here ______.)

SQE would rather that the Education Tax Credit be reinstated.  It probably would have been cheaper in the long run for the province to to keep it. Considering it was taken away, rather cruelly AFTER parents had already committed themselves to use it, this nickname may start to stick.

Buying votes at its finest.
Either Dolton is poor at math or he knows that the products of his school system are. Factor in the HST and he is only giving you $10 back. If he really wanted to help he would make these types of programs tax exempt.

In the end it’s a tax break for the rich, as the poor can not afford these programs anyways.

Right you are Mark H. - from here on in with McGuinty it’s all about pandering for votes and doing whatever’s necessary to stay in power.

Agree that this is a smoke and mirrors effort because in my area the cost of these programs has gone UP thanks to the HST. Let’s also not forget that before Dalton these programs were not taxed at all.

For the kids and parents???? Not one bit.

It was also repulsive that Dalton and his entourage used kids, a school and a classroom to disrupt things.

I think there needs to be a law against using kids and schools as handy props for government announcements…all governments, every party.

I personally can’t stand it and remember an occasion in the Brockville area when a principal and board refused to let former ed. minister Kennedy into their schools for such a purpose.

It would be a winner of a policy for whichever party ran with it.
